Four wins against the two in-state rivals TEMPE Ariz. - In last week’s Utah series, Arizona State was three innings away from a conference-opening sweep when the bullpen imploded. The Sun Devils won the series, but left the Pac-12 season-debut with a sour taste in their mouths.
Four wins in-a-row against GCU and Arizona was the perfect mouthwash.
“This is why I came back here,” head coach Willie Bloomquist said. “I wish we could do this every home game and have this type of atmosphere.”
The Sun Devils (15-8, 5-1 Pac-12) completed the in-state rivalry sweep with a 10-6 win over Arizona (13-9, 3-6 Pac-12) at Phoenix Municipal Stadium Sunday evening.
For the second night in-a-row, freshman third baseman Nu’u Contrades provided the heartbeat for ASU’s lineup. Contrades went 4-for-5 with three singles and a solo homer. He drove in three runs on the evening. Including Sunday’s game, Contrades is 17-for-34 Collapse

Another one bites the dust. Austin Nunez, who seemed to be a key piece for the future of Arizona State basketball, officially entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon. Nunez is now the fourth former ASU player to enter the portal in 2023.
The freshman guard, a former four-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American, checked into 28 games this season averaging 4.5 points per-game and shooting 41.5 percent from the field on an average of 16.3 minutes of playing time. Nunez averaged 0.9 assists, 1.1 rebounds and 0.7 steals per-game.

Continued ascension culminates in program-best finish The Arizona State men’s swim & dive just finished the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis with its best-ever finish of second place.
For those that know only the information that floats on the surface about the team, maybe this isn’t a surprise. After all, they are coached by Bob Bowman, the venerated instructor of Michael Phelps during his Olympic career.
But the reality is, after taking over the program in 2015, it has been a meticulous and gradual climb to this point, the new high-water mark in program history.
The foundation for this groundbreaking run was laid last season, when the 2021-22 Sun Devils equaled their program-best finish at the NCAAs from 1982 with a sixth-place effort.
That strong base to build off allowed the Sun Devils to launch into this season, and at the NCAAs, new heights were reached. They entered the NCAAs with a goal to best their 236-point total from last Collapse

“worst practice” ends with some bad news TEMPE Ariz. - Arizona State’s practice Tuesday started with a lighthearted competition drill and ended with bad news and disappointment from head coach Kenny Dillingham.
“That was our worst practice by far,” Dillingham said. “Worst practice by far, not even close. (The) energy, passion, it just wasn’t there like it has been in prior days.
“It’s just noticeably different. We had a few of our leaders that were banged-up today, so we held them (out), and you can see that their passion (and) energy our team was looking for (was not there).”
O-Line takes a hit
Dillingham also announced after practice that Cal transfer offensive lineman Ben Coleman will miss extended time with a lower-leg injury, and he’s aiming to get back “towards the end of the season, middle of the season, somewhere in there,” per Dillingham.
